Is it possible to use audiobookshelf to listen to podcasts without downloading them? thx a lot

Yes, if you mean not download to the client. By default they are streamed to your client.

If you are asking NOT to download them to the server itself… Nope, make no sense after all… You are selfhosting…

Just use antennapod instead or another podcast client and don’t use abs in that case.

It’s primarily used for audiobooks. Those need to be stored somewhere.
The podcast feature of Audiobookshelf uses the same structure, so the server downloads the file and the client can then find it and either download it to your local device or stream it from your server.

If you don’t want that, I wouldn’t use Audiobookshelf as an intermediary tool. I’d use Pocket Casts, or antennapod or some such.

Unrelated but there are several open source podcast aapps that will do this like AntennaPod or Cardo
